Here are the answers to some common problems that teachers may encounter while using technology in the classroom.

1. If you are working in Microsoft Word and it freezes you want to determine what programs are eating up your processing power. You do this by hitting CTRL+ ALT+DELTE. This opens the windows task manager. You will then click on the processes tab to see what programs are open and what amount of resources are unavailable. Whatever program is malfunctioning (in this case word) will most likely be taking up the most power. So end task on the program. Use registry patrol to determine any problems in your computer. I t will scan all files and hard drives and report them. The XP Medic program has a memory cleaner you can use to clean your memory and speed up processing as well.

2. To setup word to prevent you from losing unsaved files is simple you must backup your files. You do this by either downloading backup software or doing it manually. Manually you can hit the save button on your computer ever so often making sure your files are up to date. You can also email papers to yourself or save files on your computer or an external hard drive. To automatically save them so you do not forget to do that yourself go to word options. Click on the save tab. You can set your recovery file to update and save after a certain amount of time. You also can pick where you want to save this file under the same tab. Then every say five minutes your file will save to this folder. That way if your computers freezes or you forget to save it you can go to the file you decide and your document will be there.

3. If you saved a file and do not remember where you saved it there are a few places you can go to find the document. One, if you were in the document recently you can go down to your start tab click it and go into recent documents and it should pop up there or if you know the file name, and you are running a Microsoft operating system, go to Start, Search and type in the file name and choose your search options. In the search option you can also type in when you last modified the document or when you wrote the document and it will also pop up.

4. To solve why your computer keeps freezing and crashing you can run a registry control because the problem is most likely due to programs running behind the scenes. Two examples that can check your registry for problems are registry patrol and XP Medic. This will instantly fix problems that are slowing your computer down. It also has a feature that stops programs from downloading when you turn on your computer which can be a problem for older computers. It will also clean up cache files which will dramatically increase your internet performance speed.
5.
IIf you delete and item you can retrieve it by going to your recycle bin as long as you have not deleted that your file should be able to be found there.
6. If your printer does not work DO NOT start by sending it again and DO NOT send it again until the problem has been identified and corrected. Because this can clog the network and compound the original problem. First, check to see if you are logged into the network correctly. If not the network will not recognize you as a legitimate user. Save your document. Close the program and log in correctly. Next, check the printer. It maybe offline or there may be a jam or it may need more paper. Check the connection between the printer and the computer.
