Technology Reflection What I Have Learned Before heading into this course I did not know a lot about different technologies. I knew that one day in my classroom I would be expected to use things like Microsoft Word and a projector screen, but I did not realize how many different technologies were out there to help me to teach my students. Through this course I not only learned that these technologies existed, but how to use them and how to implement them into my classroom. The first thing that I learned that will truly help me in the classroom is the Excel can actually make graphs. Before this graph I thought that the only thing that you did on Excel was type information in a neat an organized manner. Through this class and the grade book activity I learned that you can do so much more. As a teacher I can input students’ grades and compare them with each other and with other grades in they have received in the class by making pie and bar graphs. Excel will even calculate percentages for me if I wanted it too. The next thing I learned was how to incorporate many different technologies into a lesson plan. As a teacher you do not always have to use Power Point. In high school all of my teachers always used Power Points for their lessons. They would put it on the board and everyone would copy the bullets for their own notes. After looking at them for eight periods a day they got boring. Each show started to blend together and look the same and I could not remember what was what. This class has shown me that there are many different options on types of presentations you can use for your students. For example, you can use Wordle or Presi. One of the most important things that I learned was constructivism v. objectivism. I learned that it is not okay to do everything for my students. Rather, I should give them a problem and let them solve it on their own. I should let my students make their own choices and work through problems because by working through these situations on their own they will be able to better learn.
